No visa needed to stay in Belarus during the WHC

Foreign citizens, who purchase a ticket to at least one hockey match of the 2014 IIHF World Championship, will be able to stay in Belarus without a visa from April 25 till May 31. The cheapest ticket to a match will cost 10 euro. It was announced at the press-conference by Oleg Mikhailov, who is the Head of the state institution “Sanatorium-resort center “TsentrKurort”.

At the same time, a border crossing system of Belarus by sports fans is still being worked out. However, according to the words of a specialist, no one will check whether a foreigner has really visited a match or whether he has come to Belarus with other purposes. “If you have purchased a 10 euro ticket, no one will make you visit a match. If you don’t come to a match and go to the Museum of the Great patriotic War or a gallery of art instead, it will be just welcome”, Mikhailov pointed out.

Vyacheslav Chernov, who is the head of the National tourism agency, has paid attention to the fact that nobody will stand in a way of the State to implement certain sanctions within the framework of present mechanisms against these people, and hereafter add them into special lists. If a sports fan stays without a visa in Belarus longer than May 31, all sanctions within the law will be implemented against him.

An issue of Belarusian border crossing with an e-ticket, which can be printed in several copies, is also being worked out today. According to the words of Vyacheslav Chernov, there may be a pre-registration with the possibility of re-registration. A principle of “those who were the first to arrive with e-tickets would be those who crossed the border” will be another variant. Please, be reminded that the 2014 IIHF World Championship will take place in Minsk on 9-25 May.
